Best Muay Thai Classes and Muay Thai Gyms in NYC

Looking for Muay Thai classes or gyms in New York City? Consider yourself lucky – in recent years Muay Thai training has become very popular outside of South-East Asia and U.S is no different. In the past decade, a number of good Muay Thai teachers have set up gyms in NYC so you have the privilege to select from a number of classes and gyms.

Here are some of the best Muay Thai classes and Muay Thai gyms in NYC, in relation to your level as a fighter.

Best Muay Thai Classes In NYC For Beginners

If you are just starting out, it’s best if you join a group that has only new fighters or beginners. New groups usually start in the fall but you can also join a beginners group any time in between and even if they’ve been doing it for couple of months, they are not that much ahead of you.

There are several gyms and classes that offer Muay Thai in New York City for the beginners. Here are the ones I can recommend:

The Ultimate Gym N.Y

This is basically a gym that is suitable for the beginners who wish to learn Muay Thai. It was the first to be established in NYC and it has been present for more than 10 years. The gym has a professional instructor, Kru Nestor Marte. Kru is a very talented Muay fighter and he is also professional in the art of Muay. An amazing fact is that top fighters in NYC like Renzo Gracie and others seek for the advice and service of Kru Nestor in order to polish their fighting techniques.

There is an amazing gym that is fully equipped and I practically found whatever gym equipment that I needed. Some of the equipment and facilities that I tried out were matted floors, Thai Heavy bags and elegant boxing rings. As a beginner, I enjoyed the facilities, which makes the art even seem easier.

I believe that this is the most filled Muay Thai facilities in NYC, because we had everything we needed. The facilities are not that complex, neither are they very limited. The classes are taught by a former champion of Muay Thai. The instructor understands the level of the trainees and he works best to deliver the paramount service to the trainees.

There are several activities taught for beginners, such as bag work, shadow boxing and basic drills. There were also some rope skipping events that helped us to stretch and get ready for the more enhanced Muay Thai.

This is more of a gym as it helped us to work on our abs, the arms and the legs as well. This was basically to help us burn the fats and be ready for the future fights. Through CROM, I learned how to throw punches in a more technical manner.

Best NYC Muay Thai Classes For Intermediate Level

Central Park

This place offers Muay Thai Kickboxing and I was also able to learn a number of boxing techniques. Even though Muay Thai is best practiced outdoors, this place is just amazing in its setting and I was able to enjoy every beginner’s class. We were able to go through some stretching, weight lifting, cool downs and a number of cardio exercises. The area receives an ample amount of sunlight that is fed with a cool breeze. After the workouts, we headed to the Kickboxing and it was very energetic. We were allowed to use the different attires available and some of them included pads and mitts. This made me realize just how physical the class could get. Once we got to the Kickboxing moment, we did not need anymore gym, everything was energetic.

Five Points Academy

Five Points is among the best Muay Thai classes in NYC, and it focuses on many aspects. When we were under the training process, we didn’t just work on our muscles, rather, we went deeper into the fighting. We were trained on how to concentrate more in a fight and how to know your attackers next move. The classes had thorough training, pad work and we learnt how to strike in the right way.

Best Muay Thai Classes For Advanced Trainees

Evolution Muay Thai NYC

Evolution is a top class that has many other branches. The instructor is a Thai former fighter, who originates from Australia. The environment was very welcoming and since knew some extra tips about fighting, I realized just how deep Muay Thai could get.

The sizes of the classes were slightly bigger and Brandon, the expert instructor, made us feel the ease of Muay Thai. Apparently, the prices were higher, but probably because it was the Advanced level.

Another top Muay Thai class that gives intense training. Once we completed the 6 months, we entered the advanced class, where things got more interesting. Since the clinching and striking were taught in the first levels, we now worked on speed, endurance and power. The techniques here are more freestyle and very enjoyable.

Best Muay That Classes For Kids

Renzo Gracie

Renzo is another top fighter, who also specializes in training the kids in New York. The kids were ushered to the basics of Muay Fighting. Renzo Gracie makes things even more interesting in the fighting by making the process focused on fun. It is not all about fighting and learning the fundamentals, rather, the professional instructor believes that fighting when focusing on the fun makes it easier to understand the process.

Kids’ classes are available every Saturday 10am and Wednesday 5pm. These are suitable times for kids as they should be out of school.

There are more Muay Thai gyms and classes in NYC but the ones I pointed out are the gyms and teachers I had personal contact with and the ones that I liked most.  The entire training crew of all these classes and gyms were very friendly and I personally liked how they encouraged me. The training was enjoyable, including the facilities in the gyms that were big enough.
